International Conference on Ethnobotany

The International Conference on Ethnobotany on 21-26 August 2005 in Istanbul, www.iceb2005.com, has a section on ethnoveterinary medicine. Abstracts can be sent to Fusun Ertug before 1 March.

Plant use of farmers and pastoralists

This panel would like to focus on the plant use of farmers and pastoralists, including traditional uses such as fuel, fodder, and veterinary practices. The panel organizers are keen to invite papers on:

  • medicinal plants to cure animals
  • traditional uses and management of fodder plants
  • fodder plant resources, which are considered important in indigenous/traditional cultures for giving animal-derived products (meat, dairy products, eggs) a special taste or value
  • observations on grazing plants considered by animals for their self-medication
  • ethology and self-medication/zoopharmacognosy, with a special accent on primatology
  • bee keeping plants
  • fuel plants and related archaeological and ritual issues
  • anthropological, ethnoecological, and social aspects of all the aforementioned topics, both among pastoralist societies and in any traditional animal husbandry.
